HARRY POTTER A HISTORY OF MAGIC AT THE BRITISH LIBRARY

I will preface this post by saying i’m no Potterhead – I read all the Harry Potter books many years ago and have seen the films, some several times but I have never had a movie marathon or own any merchandise… I am however an ardent admirer of JK Rowling’s work and how her writing for children and adults draws from real, often sombre themes but also has the ability to see hope and magic in the darkest of places.

You have just under two months to catch The Harry Potter History of Magic Exhibition at The British Library – a scholarly but humorous stroll through the library’s archives of magical rare books, manuscripts and curious objects capturing the traditions of folklore and magic which are at the heart of the Harry Potter stories.

NEW SHOP: BRASSICA MERCANTILE AND RESTAURANT

I’ve met plenty of people with dreams – I even began to put the wheels in motion some years ago for my once upon a dream to open a bookshop with a cafe… in recent years i’ve leaned towards opening the homewares shop my neighbourhood is lacking. I have friends who have been steadily training as florists alongside their day job and taking jewellery courses so they can spread their wings one day.

A light-filled restaurant serving locally sourced comfort food with an adjoining homeware store with Dickensian windows opening out onto a picturesque village square is one such dream. However, it’s another to execute every part of a dream flawlessly, with charm and atmosphere like Brassica Restaurant and the adjoining Mercantile Shop which I had the pleasure if visiting on a recent trip to Dorset.

DESCUBRIENDO UN CÁLIDO MINIMALISMO EN NUEVOS DISEÑOS

Throughout this year there has been an abundance of new product launches, during Stockholm furniture fair and more.  I’ve noticed is a trend towards a soft, warm minimalism with almost a nod to the 1970’s. Not so much retro but more of an industrial, geometric and raw sense of modernism, with soft warm tones. I love this style, it’s cosy and inviting.
